Longfor Glorious City

The project is an compound apartment for long-term rent.The towering apartment buildings enclose the inner courtyard into a sunken, well-like space. The design utilizes a matrix of tall arbor trees intended to mitigate the oppressive feeling of the vertical space, while simultaneously creating more comfortable under-canopy spaces, focusing people's sightlines and experience within the dense greenery. 
The design also resolves numerous unfavorable site constraints. One-third of the modest inner courtyard is occupied by fire lanes and fire rescue staging areas. In response, our design strategy seamlessly integrates these into a homeward circulation loop, transforming them into a flexible site suitable for both active and passive uses. Within this limited and constrained space, standard community functions cannot all be accommodated. Rather than attempting an all-encompassing design, we preferred to establish clear priorities and highlight key focal points. Consequently, the outdoor activity functions have been simplified and concentrated, contained within two rustic box structures.
